Sarah Atkinson

Sarah Atkinson. MA., RCC., R-DMT

Sarah is a registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical counsellors. She holds a Master in Somatic Psychology from Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado and is a registered Dance/Movement Therapist with the American Dance/Movement Therapy Association. She has received certification from the Gottman Institute, Seattle in couples/marital therapy and is currently training towards her certification with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, Boulder, USA, specializing in the area of trauma.

Sarah has worked in a variety of clinical settings since 2003, including community mental health, aboriginal communities in remote areas, addiction and detox treatment centres in Canada, USA and France.

She has a particular interest in trauma, and one’s relationship to the body, blending expressive arts therapy practices with cognitive/behavioural therapy. She is committed to supporting clients towards continued integration, self care and healing.

Having struggled with an eating disorder in her late teens, she knows from experience the pain of using food (in her case restricting food), as a way to cope. Her goal is to support individuals who come to the Cedric Centre, to develop a compassionate and loving relationship with themselves that enables them to break free from the cycle of using food in their life as a coping strategy.

Sarah works as a counsellor for the CEDRIC Centre, alongside her private practice work. Sarah lives in Whistler, BC now, and communicates with CEDRIC clients via Skype, phone from a distance.
